Archive Picture - Sold Out
“Well, what can I say about this
one? I had an idea about doing a pencil picture of Joey, but
givin' a bit of a twist by including that famous Arai in
colour. But somehow it didn't quite work. So I decided to
airbrush the whole thing just using black paint - apart from the
helmet.
The end result in my eyes was............OK. ..............Not quite right in my opinion,
but OK.
The trouble was, everyone else that saw it loved it! So the
original went off to the printers, and boy did they have trouble with
it. They just couldn't recreate the brightness of the
yellow with the pure black and white..
Anyway they did their best and sent back 350 litho prints for me to
look at. Well when I saw them I hated the colours that had
been reproduced (this is always a problem that artists have - that's
why I now print everything myself).
Again though, everyone else loved it and we started selling them (much
to my dislike). Within a few months.............they'd all
sold !!
The fastest selling print we've ever done. We still get asked for this
one today. If you're lucky enough to have a copy it's
probably worth an extra zero on what you paid for it!
I finally sold the original to a lady in Canada in 2007. There will be a new Joey out hopefully at the end of 2008.”
