Art Deco Valentino Rossi

During lockdown 2020 and with no live racing, I thought I would pursue something that has been in my head for a while.  I have always loved the Art Deco period, artwork, buildings etc and I thought I would try adapt it to a MotoGP rider.  It certainly was not as easy as I thought it would be and its been a huge learning curve for me.

Rossi had this helmet for the winter test in 2012 – his return to Yamaha after a couple of poor seasons with Ducati.  It is unofficially known as ‘Kendo’ and is thought to originate from the Japanese word kendo which is used to express intense personal emotion towards something.

It is a totally digitally created piece (the slightly cheaper prices reflect this) but it certainly took me as long, if not longer, than a painting, learning a lot of new skills along the way.  Creating all the shapes and textures to produce a detailed picture is certainly an eye opener.

I hope that you like this ‘different’ take on my work.  I really did enjoy creating this digital painting.
